Racing For The Prize

First Church of the Nazarene
Pastor Bryan Solomon

When people in Columbus, Indiana tell you about their town they usually want to talk about it being the 8th nicest city architecturally in the country.  They will drive you past schools, churches, and businesses that have been designed uniquely by noted architects.  They also will tell you what all the many wonderful, generous contributions that Cummins Inc., the leading maker of diesel engines, has provided for the community.  Finally, they will make certain that you are aware that Tony Stewart, race car driver extraordinaire, is a local resident.  They are proud, hard working Hoosiers who believe in each other and their hometown.
It should be no surprise then to find that the First Church of the Nazarene in Columbus is comprised of a group of individuals who want their church to be a part of all that is good in their town.  They provide an excellent day care program, an effective Jail Ministry, and when the entire town was flooded in 2009 distributed hundreds of Crisis Care Kits provided by Nazarenes from across the nation.

For 80 years they have faithfully preached the Word and reached out to those in need.  They have become a strong and caring church.  They believe that the Lord is the architect, designer of all they do and they seek His blueprint for their growing church.  They know that the engine that drives their church has to be prayer.  They have an efficient "pit crew" that keeps everything running smoothly and that supports Pastor Bryan Solomon, who has been in the driver's seat for the past 7 years.

Our services were filled with energy and excitement as the Holy Spirit moved in our midst.  I believe that much was accomplished and that the Kingdom moved forward during the week.  Like both Tony Stewart and the apostle Paul they are running the race and striving for the prize.  Difference is his prize will tarnish and fade and theirs won't.
