God Bless America: A Weekend of Remembering

Park Service remembering 9-11-01
On September 11th, 2001 nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives to terrorists in an attack on our soil.  On the tenth anniversary of that awful day FREE TO FLY MINISTRIES joined with the citizens of Clay County, Indiana to pay respects to those who died and to the "First Responders" who risked their own lives to save others.  I stood and watched as a powerful version of our National Anthom echoed through the "Cow Palace" in Forest Park.  I listened as a Sherrif's Deputy rang a large silver bell 10 times while we stood in silent respect.  I listened to several special songs and readings that reflected the resolve of our nation to remain strong and free. Then I spoke about the first responders who lost their lives while rescuing others.  I reminded those who had come that Jesus was also a "First Responder" in that while we were still sinners He gave his life to rescue us.  I reminded all of us that we now, having found the "way" out, have a duty to tell and show others the that the only way out is Jesus.
Bee Ridge Church, founded 1832
Sunday morning I joined Pastor Jeff Bridgewarter and the congregation of the 180 year old Bee Ridge Congregational Christian Church.  I found a group of joyous believers who are sensing that there are great days ahead for their church located in the countyside outside of Brazil, Indiana.  Just 6 years ago attendances had dwindled to about 15 and now they regularly run in the 70s on Sunday morning.  They have purchased property and are working toward a relocation in the near future.  This church may be surrounded by the graves of those who since the early 1800s have gone on to be with the Lord, but the service was filled with life, enthusiasm and the presence of the Holy Spirit.  I know it has only been two weeks but I have been reminded that His church is is alive and well and that the best is yet to come.

NEXT WEEKEND: SEPTEMBER 17-18 - GREENFIELD NAZARENE CHURCH, GREENFIELD, INDIANA

Pastor Jeff Bridgewater
